What is your word?

If you were to be enclosed in one word, what would that be?

We are already enclosed in small words, small events, and small thoughts, making up a bigger picture. But what if you respond to only one word?

My word is freedom. I know of nobody being free, but in our world populated with clouds that sweep away the silence of the sky above the blue lilacs of Amaranthine Spring, I am free. My freedom is but at the words’ length of a magic rub of the lamp of imagination.

Without freedom, we cannot feel the wind’s promiscuous touch as if on ripe flowers and leaves; without freedom, we cannot be as young as yesteryear’s roses. We cannot see Autumn climbing up the vines and the heartbeat of the moon, alive and beckoning.

Only with freedom of vision and thought can we unleash our unimaginable, magnificent, wonderful world inside of us.

“Everybody has a secret world inside of them, I mean everybody. All of the people in the whole world, I mean everybody – inside them they’ve got unimaginable, magnificent, wonderful, stupid, amazing worlds….Neil Gaiman

You cannot paint in colors and words unless your mind is free to travel to your imaginary, legendary lands between the corner of sunset and the verge of dawn. Unless your heart dances to the tune hummed by a water lily. Unless your mind is raving at the wild, immaculate treesWith freedom and broken dreams, you can do anything. The shards of olden dreams are lavish land for new unbroken dreams.

“A painting to me is primarily a verb, not a noun, an event first and only secondarily an image.”- Elaine de Kooning

A painting is not a noun, it is a verb—to love. To love with fierce freedom and the lovely despair of losing one’s self into the loving.

In love, we are maneuvering a human mechanism that at times refuses to workThat is clear, but the trying is enchanting. Buckets of enchantment color ethereal worldly beings in agonizing freedom andlove.

Art by Gustave Adolphe Mossa.

She is primarily a teacher of English. Also her mind is lured by goodies like finance, economics, interest rates, the stock market, as she has a hankering for how the money is made. Nevertheless she is a dreamer on a cloud...As dreams cost nothing... On ordinary days she is a word-weaver for everything and everything that breathes. On the best of days she just follows the seasons by means of bike, skis, or roller-skates. She is grateful to all colors of the world and to people who read, smile and drop a line here, or on her email. As ever Iulia you have made me think deeply. I certainly agree with what you say about freedom but it will take a lot of self-examination to decide what ‘my word’ is. If I come to a conclusion I’ll late you know 😉

Thank you, dear Roger! As always, I think too much and I cannot bear that my favorite gentlepeople not to do the same :)))))
I am happy to inform you that you are allowed at a 2 word ‘word’. 😉
I look forward to your conclusion. 😉 🙂

Certainly I’ll let you know. P is suffering from severe back pain – fortunately no school today or tomorrow. I put her in my ‘electric chair’ this morning. 😉💚💙

I’ve got the word, close to yours but with the nuance that it has not always been so. My word is ‘unbound’.
Thank you so much for making me think about that.
I meant to say before that the art you chose is ‘haunting’ – I’ve come back to it several times.
As always, with stardust. R xxxx

You are welcome, dear Roger! I made myself think very much about it.
Well, I have discovered the painter only recently and I am in awe since then. Literally gasping :))

I think Gaiman is projecting himself upon humanity in general. First, what exists in people’s world views is by definition imaginable because it is being imagined by the person whose head it is in. And just because what is in Gaiman’s inner world is wonderful and amazing doesn’t mean what is in everyone’s mind is. I’d say at least a third of people in this world have pretty mean, petty, self serving inner worlds.

Quote: “In love we are maneuvering a human mechanism that at times refuses to work…” Beautifully expressed! Since you asked, my word that takes in everything I would ever desire to become, to be, is, with no hesitation, compassion.

  8. As Janis Joplin once put it, Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.

When I arrived in Calgary back in 2016 broke and homeless because I had been evicted from my Vancouver apartment because I had run out of money and I was unable to get a job, I had hit that spot Janis Joplin had once sang about.

    Freedom.

    Nothing left to lose.

In that situation, the world is indeed full of possibilities.

    Nothing but possibilities.

In that situation, freedom also becomes a very terrifying word.

And in the end ultimately it was indeed the world of my imagination – the lands I created through the power of my mind- that would ultimately lift me out of the abyss that was then my reality..

Thank you for your intense words! Janis is (always) right.
I am so sorry for your predicament. And I understand. I was in a sort of similar situation (family “backstabbing”). After I left the limbo, something broke and the words and the odds are simple and clear. As in the song.
Indeed, you are right. Nothing but possibilities, to build and to fly.
You have created wonderful lands with the power of your mind and imagination. And we have the same engine that sets us going, doing better and leaving the abyss behind.

  9. Savior….Our family could not make it without all the support, bail outs, emergency’s and on and on. I never get a day off that somebody doesn’t call for help with something, even if it’s just advice and listening. However…..It is a great feeling being there for all of them. I love it!

This is a lovely thought-provoking piece Lulia. I have a number of words that I would like to lay claim to but if I think about them deeply enough, I feel some of them are aspirational, I’m not entirely where I’d like to be. Still, I’ll share them with you. One is abundance and the other is colorful. This is a great prompt for me to ponder further why I chose those words.😀
