Engleza de joi/ Mistake

Mistake = an act or judgement that is misguided or wrong.

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.
So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.” – Neil Gaiman

Art by Gertrude Alice Kay.

She is primarily a teacher of English. Also her mind is lured by goodies like finance, economics, interest rates, the stock market, as she has a hankering for how the money is made. Nevertheless she is a dreamer on a cloud...As dreams cost nothing... On ordinary days she is a word-weaver for everything and everything that breathes. On the best of days she just follows the seasons by means of bike, skis, or roller-skates. She is grateful to all colors of the world and to people who read, smile and drop a line here, or on her email. Oh I agree. Mistake is one of the best teacher. And if at first attempt, I fail to learn the lesson, I happily repeat my mistake without a problem. Lol!

I agree with this 100%. I would add that sometimes you get things right through luck. To do so comes with little understanding and can be frustrating when you fail to repeat your success later because you don’t really comprehend what made it work the first time around. True understanding comes from making mistakes and learning from them. Happy new year.

Indeed you are right and indeed we sometimes confuse luck with the wisdom and knowledge we (I) suppose we (I) have. Making mistakes is innocently learning lessons over and over again…
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
      A very Happy New Year!

After spending an entire lifetime trying to make up for the mistake of being born, why not add a few more mistakes? Just as long as they don’t hurt anyone else – that’s where I draw the line.

Indeed, not hurting anyone is imperative. The crazy and glorious ones are when we are building something new. Not necessarily good but just new.
About what you have said, I might add that maybe we should love more and more, even if we sometimes see it as a mistake. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

  7. Back in the 1980s I started thinking about the idea of the “necessary mistake.” As the wheels of creation spin, any imperfections are going to cause slippages and grinds. This both personally and socially. I thought I was being genius back then. After some study I learned that many others had thought the same way. So even in thinking about mistakes, I was mistaken! 🙂🤓

This could be “cause” for long talk and long lines of words. “Perfectness” is surreal. Do you know why I have used this painting? Because it is the season, of course, and because I wish I had known as a child that in every broken bauble there lived a Christmas fairy-baby. Back then I was the horrible culprit who made so many mistakes as in breaking so many of the beautiful Christmas ornaments.
Of course, mistakes are necessary, now I am less of a bull in the china shop 🙂🙂🙂

Came to this late Iulia. Everything which could be said has been said in previous comments, so I just say that, as usual, you made me stop and think in the present hurly burly. 🙂

  17. Yes we beat ourselves up over making mistakes which is wrong because it is not human if we don’t. But that is because we are taught from very small children only to be perfect. This is a valuable lesson, Iulia and thank you for giving us permission to do so! 🙂 Happy New Year!
